Don’t Postpone Joy

A Gentle Reminder

By America’s Six Figure Real Estate Coach Roberta Ross

You know the saying, all work and no play makes Jack, or Jill, or (insert your name here) a dull person?  The truth is it doesn’t stop at “dull”.  All work and no play creates a life out of balance and that’s not a life that is fulfilling or sustainable for the long haul. I get it, I do.  There was a time in my life where being the top producer in the room was a big goal for me too. Heck, I even won a few awards for it.  And I enjoy success as much as the next person.  I also enjoy following my joy. And after some fairly serious bouts with the realization that our bodies will most definitely shut us down when we are living that far out of balance, I get the very real importance of fueling that joy and taking care of myself.

So while I challenge you to, yes, go for your goals – I also challenge you to find a way to add some balance to your days.  To take very good care of yourself physically, emotionally, and spiritually with the same passionate pace that you do your career aspirations.  Don’t postpone your joy.  Don’t wait until your “ship comes in” or you hit the lottery, or the kids are grown, or any of the rest of those “tomorrow” tasks we put off.  Embrace today.  What can bring you joy today? I like a good long hike in the woods, hanging out being silly with my kids, or curling up with a good book. What does it for you?

I recently found a great article on Huffington Post that shared 40 terrific ways to find joy in everyday life.  It’s a great read and a great reminder of the little things that we can do to fuel more joy in our lives.  It’s a busy time of year and calendars fill up fast, I know, but take it from someone who’s “been there” – putting yourself on the to-do list is not selfish or irresponsible.  In fact, taking time to fuel your joy, and your health actually can increase your productivity and keep burn-out from creeping in.

You know, help getting to that place where they can celebrate having a WHOLE life, a full life, and a fun life all while accomplishing the goals they’ve set for themselves is why a lot of entrepreneurs come to me for coaching in the first place.  Many are already successful at what they do – but they feel they are missing something or just want to accomplish more in less time so they can use that extra time doing the things they love most. The cool thing is that when we break everything down, we create a plan to help them do more of what they love – including their work.  Fueling new passion for what they do and who they are working with after all makes work a whole lot less like work, right?

If that sounds like something you need more of as well, connect with me today.  Coaching people is one of the things I love to do the most.  Seeing them embrace their own value, achieve successes, and helping them carve out more quality time for themselves.  I use those same practices in my own life, so I’m proof that they work!  Now, go out there and find some joy in today.  I’d love to hear from you how you did it!
